Firefighters from all over B.C. assisted Langford Fire Rescue in the Canadians Sending Afghanistan Firefighting Equipment (Can. S.A.F.E.) project. Langford Firefighters were in Kabul in September 2004 working with Canadian Forces Members (CIMIC) in helping deliver training and over $322,000.00 worth of fire fighting equipment to the firefighters in Kabul. This year we have sent more equipment to the Kandahar Fire Department, and are already stockpiling more equipment (and training) to send again in October. We made a strong and meaningful connection with the Afghani firefighters and believe we contribute greatly to their safety in doing their daily work. We have received a great deal of positive feedback on the trip and are working on a documentary which we hope to air nationally highlighting the efforts of this trip. |
